From 1609 to 1808, an important population of

Africans, coming generally from Africa, was

brought by strength on the American continent,

to establish a free workforce.
in 1619 twenty African slaves arrived in

Virginia. They were employed on the plantations

which developed in the colonies of the South and

the Center to cultivate the sugar cane, the

tobacco, the rice, etc.
Began a triangular trade basedon the trafficking

of slaves to America. On the American

continent, the slavery took new forms. His

development is confidentially connected to that

of the large-scale agricultural work, the

commercial plantations. At first, it was European

which we took in hard labor to work . They were

totally subjected to their master in conditions

identical to the slavery: the corporal

punishments were not rare, the marriage

forbids, they could be sold for duration staying

in the contract, the escapes or the disobedience

punished by an elongation of the contract and

sometimes the red iron, etc. This universe,

where the richest operate without any poorest

state of soul, seemed then natural, inherent to

the condition human being. The planters turned

to Africa, to make it come, this time in no way

voluntarily and massively, workers who serve for

life and may even be less than save their own

color denounced.
In some years, the importation of the slaves

took very important proportions. The slavery

took then on this continent, in the agricultural

regions, a totally new shape, both for the work

and on the racial aspect of the operation. At

the international level, slaves' traffic was

officially forbidden in 1807, having cost the life

to more than 20 million Africans.
The Blacks won their freedom, but the Whites

did not accept the equality between both races,

considering as an evidence their superiority.
We estimate at 10 or 11 millions the number of

Africans deported as slaves in America. A

minority only (600 000 - 650 000) were to

North America, the others leaving towards

Brazil and the Caribs. It is the minority sent to

North America which gave birth to the most

important population of slaves of both Americas.

In 1810 for example, according to the specialist

Peter Kochlin, we found in the United States

1,1 million slaves, that is the double of all the

Africans "imported" in this region in 200 years.
During the American Civil War, the States of

the North agreed on nothing (or on the rights of

the workers, the women or on the customs

taxes) except on a thing: they were all right all

to abolish the slavery. On January 1st, 1863,

President Lincoln abolishes the slavery in the

secessionist States. Finally in 1865, with the

passage of the 13th Amendment in the

Constitution, the slavery is definitively except

the law in all the country. 14th and 15th

amendments guarantee the equality of all the

citizens before the courts and the right to vote.
