Bonjour!

MERCI BCP BCP !!!

My text is about hearing loss and especially about hearing loss prevention.
I hope you have read (red) my text!!
I have choose this subject because I think it’s a very important thing for a musician. Especially in our generation with the evolution of the technologie, hearing loss is a reel problem of civilization.

So, When you are musician or when you like listening to music, your ears can be subjected to many attacks.
These attacks are the result of loud music and they can be irreversible.

For exemple, you are exposed to dangerous sound:
-when you play in an Orchestra
-When you go to a concert or to a movie theater
-When you listen to loud music in your house or in your car
-And When you listen to music with your Cd or Mp3 readers or with your Ipod. And Especially the readers of compressed music, like MP3. This format is more dangerous because his compression is the result of highter frequencys. And high frequencys are more dangerous than low frequencys ... Do you anderstand.. ?!? ^^

But there are not only the music players an listners who are touched by Hearing loss:
Because in our soundscape we can be constantly confronted with noise louder than our ears can bear.
For exemple:
-Lownmower
-Screeching of brake of a bus
-Siren of ambulance
-Powerpick
-Chainsaw
-Heavy traffic ...
All of these things can damage our ears.

To go back to Walkman:
At the end of my text, there is a table.
(You have saw it because you have read my text!! ^^)
The pictures are not very clear! But you can see the names of various readers , and their sound capacity in Decibels.
And you can compare their sound when their volumes are , low, in a quarter, half, in three quarter and full of their capacity.

To give you an idea of what that represente. I will take for exemple the Ipod:
So,

Under 85dB (that’s the sound level of a FACTORY) : it’s not necessary to supervise the exposure time.
à So, if the volume of your Ipod is on the quarter, you can listen to it as long as you want.

Now, in 94dB (that’s the sound level of street with heavy traffic) : the tolerable exposure time without protection is One hour.
Then, if your Ipod is under Half of its volume setting, you can listen to il One hour Only (? Place de Only dans la phrase?)
After, your ears will be damage.

In 100dB (that’s the sound level of a repetition of orchestra) the tolerable exposition without protection is fifty minutes.
à So, an Ipod in Half of its volume can be listening whitout risk only fifty minutes!

And finally, in 105dB (that’s the sound level of a concert or repetition of group of amplify music) you can hear it without risk only five minutes.
Then, if your Ipod is above half of his volume settings, you can hear it only five minutes.

Moreover, if you have bought your era-phones separatly of your Ipod, it’s enough to one minute to exceed the limit.

If you don’t respect these advices, you will be tuch by prematuring hearing loss.
So you should be protected your hearing when you are exposed to sound above 85dB
Above 85dB, it’s when you should be shouted to be understand in a conversation.

There is Three Kinds of ear plugs to protect your ears:

-The first one: ear plugs of single use (they attenuate the sound volume but deteriorates the high frequencys)
-Second : Plastic ear plugs (with same characteristics but more comfortable)
-Finally : Silicone era plugs making by audioprothesists (attenuate the sound volume whitout modifying the clearness of the sound).
Its cost about 100 euros and these are used by the musicians.

The advices to protect your hearing:
So, to put ear plugs for the concerts, repetitions of Orchestra or group of amplify music
To use your portable phone in freehand
To lower your Walkman in half of its volume without exceeding seven hours of listening.
To lower the volume of music in your house or in your car and increase the bass
To take acount your state of tiredness because your ears are weakned when you are tired

To finnaly, if you don’t have earplugs you should be respected times of pause:
ten minutes every hours for 64dB (you remember, under half of the volume of the Ipod, and that’s the sound volume of heavy traffic)
and a time of silence every seven minutes for a repetition of orchestra or group of amplify music.
