Bonjour,

Je dois avant tout faire un résumé d'un texte en anglais comme pour un oral, qu'il ne soit pas trop long et clair, compréhensif qu'une personne n'ayant pas le texte sous les yeux comprend :


Gender pay gap

Now, last summer, the Prime Minister set up the Women and Work Commission with a brief to examine the problem of the gender pay gap and come up with some solutions. Well, the research released yesterday by the commission shows how serious the problem is: women's full-time pay is on average 18% less than men's. It is 40% lower if they work part-time and most women still work in the lower-paid jobs such as cleaning, caring and catering. Margaret Prosser was appointed chair to the commission and today presents her interim report.
Margaret, what have you identified as the problem the government should be really tackling?

I suppose the overall point to make about what we’ve identified is that the possible solutions to this continuing pay-gap are many and various, the reasons for the pay gap are many and various, are multi-layered and quite complicated. It has partly to do with job segregation, and job segregation itself has got a lot to do with educational choices which girls make at a young age: peer pressure, expectations, lack very often of retraining opportunities for women returning after having their families, so that’s one whole section.

But we know that even when a boy and a girl get an equal sort of degree, they go to the same sort of job, the woman will be paid less than the men.
Indeed, indeed, and a lot of that has to do with lack of transparency in pay schemes. It has to do with kind of general sexism if you like, you know, what a man is doing is just kind of valued in some ways as being more important and you find that perhaps in much higher level of employment in the city or law firms whereas you say people would come in with equal qualifications and often with equivalent experience and still the man ends up going further forward and of course the tendency for many women to work part time has a huge impact on their earning power, an impact which can last a life time.
