Philadelphia was the capital of the United States before Washington. It is the principal metropolis of Pennsylvania, given to William Penn by Charles II. Penn wanted a city utopian, directed by laws less severe than in England, with an atmosphere of peace and freedom. Today, this city receives a lot of immigrants and organizes the Mummers Parade, all the first January.
Définition des deux persos principaux :
Andrew Beckett: He’s the first main character of the movie. Andrew is a young, nice and intelligent lawyer who works at Wyant, Wheeler, but he has AIDS. Due to his disease, his boss fired him. He will sue W,W for employment discrimination, helped by his boyfriend Miguel and his lawyer Joe Miller before die.
Joe Miller: He’s an other lawyer who worked in the same case of Andrew. He is a young father and hates homosexuals, but will help Andrew and will discover that gays are like everybody.
Expliquer le thème du film :
The topic of the film Philadelphia is AIDS, gays and tolerance about those. In 1993, it was the AIDS epidemic, and the big majority of people were prejudiced against this fatal disease. Actually, as AIDS was not yet studied, they found wrong ideas about it, that it could be transmitted by kissing or by shaking hands, for example. Moreover, the gays were discriminated because people believe that only homosexuals transmitted this disease.
Les scènes les plus émouvantes ?
I have naturally found the end the most moving, because Andrew, the main character, the nice lawyer who is liked by everybody, dies. We known all that AIDS could kill him, but not as early. The scene when Joe decides to help Andrew in the library is moving too, because Miller becomes more tolerant and understanding.
