Installation logiciel gcc sous fedora

Salut je suis newbi sous linux (j'utilise fedora core 4).
Chez moi Totem ne marche pas j'ai voulus donc télécharger un autres player j'ai donc téléchargé MPplayer-1.0pre5.

Je vais dans la consol et je tape ./configure et la il me dit :

Note for gcc 2.96 users: Some versions of this compiler are known to miscompile
mplayer and lame (which is used for mencoder). If you get compile errors,
first upgrade to the latest 2.96 release (minimum 2.96-85) and try again.
If the problem still exists, try with gcc 3.x (or 2.95.x) *BEFORE* reporting
bugs!

Je déside donc de télécharger une version 3.X de gcc. Et c'est la le gros problème je n'ai pas réussi à trouver un site ou il y avait des version de gcc à télécharger. Le problème n'arrive pas que pour cette install mais pour beaucoup d'autres. Je voulais savoir ou je pouvais télécharger les version de gcc ? Et si il fallait une version du compilateur pour chaque logiciel (parce qu'a chaque fois il m'en demande une différente) ?

Pour infos j'ai : gcc 4.0.0
