La plus grande photo d’intérieur au monde vient d’être prise par Jeffrey Martin. Il s’agit d’un cliché de 40 Gigapixels d’une résolution de 280 000 x 140 000 composé de 2947 images prises a l’aide d’un Canon 550D et une optique 220 mm.
Un travail herculéen
Le sujet est la bibliothèque baroque du monastère Strahov qui se trouve à Prague. L’image constitue un panorama de 360º. Le fichier pèse 280 Go et la taille de l’impression demanderait un papier de 23 m x 11 m. L’image a été découpée en 85 000 morceaux pour sa diffusion sur Internet.
Pour arriver à ses fins, Jeffrey Martin a utilisé un bras mécanique qui a commencé par le haut de la pièce et qui a fait des va-et-vient pendant cinq jours. Il a évidemment photographié en RAW et traité les clichés pour corriger l’exposition et la couleur. Tout a été photographié à la même exposition afin de garder une impression de naturel. Il a ensuite retouché le panorama pendant environ 20 heures pour corriger les défauts du logiciel, comme des bordures non alignées ou des trous.
Une vue unique
Ce projet est non seulement intéressant artistiquement, mais il offre une vue que très peu de personnes ont l’occasion de voir. L’intérieur de la bibliothèque est interdit au touriste. Même le photographe a dû porter des pantoufles spéciales pour protéger le sol en bois. Enfin, le plafond, peint par Franz Anton Maulbertsch en 1974 est trop haut pour que les détails soient visibles à l’oeil nu.
